Sample Zambia Classic Safari Itinerary at a Glance

DAY 1 – Tongaberzi Lodge/Livingstone (Victoria Falls) – Fully Inclusive – Fly to Livingstone or Victoria Falls airport and road transfer to Tongabezi Lodge.

DAY 2 – Tongaberzi Lodge/Livingstone (Victoria Falls) – Fully Inclusive – Morning tour of the falls and evening sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. The afternoon is free or your choice of activities offered by the lodge.

DAY 3 – Mfuwe Lodge/South Luangwa NP – Fully Inclusive – After breakfast fly from Livingstone to Mfuwe airport via Lusaka. Afternoon bush spa massage and evening game drive.

DAY 4 – Bilimungwe Bushcamp/South Luangwa NP – Fully Inclusive – After breakfast, you will pack up and head for your first camp in the South Luangwa National Park, Bilimungwe Bushcamp. Afternoon tea and evening game drive.

DAY 5 – Bilimungwe Bushcamp/South Luangwa NP – Fully Inclusive – Morning bush walk, brunch in the bush and late afternoon game drive with sundowners.

DAY 6 – Bilimungwe Bushcamp/South Luangwa NP – Fully Inclusive – After breakfast you will set out for an intrepid exploration on foot. Spend a lazy afternoon in your hammock on your private deck before afternoon tea and your evening game drive.

DAY 7 – Chindeni Bushcamp/South Luangwa NP – Fully Inclusive – Morning game drive and transfer to Chindeni Bushcamp. Afternoon to relax and late afternoon walking exploration to discover the rich diversity of the surrounding area.

DAY 8 – Chindeni Bushcamp/South Luangwa NP – Fully Inclusive – Morning game drive and bush brunch. Afternoon watching the migratory birds and wildlife flocking to the lagoon – along with the resident elephants, zebra, and much more!

DAY 9 – Chindeni Bushcamp/South Luangwa NP – Fully Inclusive – – Morning bush walk and afternoon game drive.

DAY 10 – Chindeni Bushcamp/South Luangwa NP – Breakfast – Morning game drive back to Mfuwe airport and fly to Lusaka to connect with your onward international flight.

Tongabezi Lodge/Livingstone (Victoria Falls)

The luxurious Tongabezi Lodge is situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, just upstream of the Victoria Falls. The lodge features a lounge, a bar, two main area swimming pools, and a gym. Meals are served in the large dining room, on an outdoor deck overlooking the river, in the privacy of your room, or floating on the Zambezi River. The five houses and four river cottages are each individually styled and cater for two to five guests. Game drives, bush walks, and boating trips are all-inclusive. Victoria Falls can be viewed in close proximity to the lodge, on a short excursion with your guide.

Located near the Zambezi River in southwestern Zambia, the bustling town of Livingstone is famous as the home of the magnificent Victoria Falls. One of the original natural wonders of the world, the World Heritage Site is known locally as ‘The Smoke that Thunders’. This spectacle is accessible from both Zambia and Zimbabwe.

ACTIVITIES

Victoria Falls is an ideal place to combine game viewing and water sports. There is much to do including excellent fishing, a thrilling bungee jump and arguably the best commercial whitewater rafting in the world. Visitors can hike around the falls, try zip lining or enjoy the incredible bridge swing. Those seeking more leisurely activities can take sunset cruises along the river, with champagne and snacks included, meander through the vibrant local Livingstone Market, or discover the region’s history and archaeology at the Livingstone Museum.

Mfuwe Lodge/South Luangwa National Park

A unique lodge situated in the South Luangwa National Park with 18 luxury en-suite thatched chalets, each with a private decking area that overlooks a beautiful oxbow lagoon that attracts abundant wildlife. Mfuwe Lodge provides the visitor with a special glimpse of Africa as she was – untouched, unspoilt and unforgettable.

Accommodation comprises 18 guest chalets, each with its own private deck. Game drives and walks are conducted by an experienced and knowledgeable team of guides. The lodge also boasts a Bush Spa where a range of relaxing and healing African therapies are provided.

Bordering the Luangwa River, the northern and southern Luangwa National Parks contain some of the most breathtaking and untouched wilderness in Africa. ROOM CONFIGURATION

Mfuwe Lodge comprises 18 chalets scattered along two lagoons’ shady banks from which you can enjoy your own private piece of Africa. There are 10 twins (2 beds), 3 doubles (king bed), 3 family rooms (day bed downstairs, king bed upstairs in a loft), and 2 suites (day bed and guest toilet upstairs, king bed and full bath downstairs). Secluded covered verandas look out over wallowing hippo and thirsty game in the lagoons, while the comfortable sitting rooms and en-suite bathrooms with panoramic walk-in showers are the perfect place to wind down.

Bilimungwe Bushcamp/South Luangwa National Park

Overlooking 3 waterholes with many herds of resident elephant, Bilimungwe Bushcamp is a hidden gem hidden under huge mahogany trees. Each of the 4 large thatched and grass chalets sits on stilts and has magnificent views of one or two of the three watering holes. With beautiful outdoor showers, a large deck overlooking the watering holes, and large bedroom area, guests can enjoy the surrounding wildlife from the comfort of their chalet. Bilimungwe has a secret breakfast spot on the edge of Luangwa Valley, perfect to watch the sunrise over the Chindeni hills as well as a boma for surprise outdoor dinners under the stars!

ACTIVITIES

Take advantage of the exceptional knowledge and charm of resident guide Manda Chisanga, and head out with him on a walking safari or game drive. In between walking, find a chair and enjoy the wildlife magnets that are Bilimungwe’s three permanent waterholes. Who needs satellite television when you have your very own ‘Bush TV’ to entertain you?

ROOM CONFIGURATION

Bilimungwe’s four raised thatched rooms have been carefully designed to ensure the height of comfort whilst retaining that authentic bushcamp feel, each with magnificent views of one or two of the three watering holes. The mature mahogany trees that surround camp are echoed in the rich, wood interiors and the beautiful wooden furniture, handmade by local artisans. Bright African textiles bring splashes of color to the elegant rooms. After an early morning game drive, head back to your room for a refreshing, open-air waterfall shower, or continue the wildlife spectacle from your private deck. Two of the chalets have twin beds (queen-sized beds) and two have doubles (king-sized bed).

The lounge and dining area is built on stilts around a large, old termite mound, under an ancient mahogany tree that provides ample shade from the hot sunshine. Bilimungwe has a secret breakfast spot on the edge of Luangwa Valley, perfect to watch the sunrise over the Chindeni hills. Bilimungwe sleeps up to eight guests and is open from May to December.

Each of Chindeni’s four spacious tented chalets overlooks the lagoon and the Chindeni Hills in the distance. ROOM CONFIGURATION

Raised on a wooden decking, Chindeni’s 4 en-suite magnificent canvas tents have private decks from which one can view the resident big game often in attendance, or simply enjoy the extensive birdlife and serenity of the camp and lagoon. The tents are the most spacious in the Luangwa, each with two queen-sized beds or one king bed, shower, toilet and double vanities. The dining area is on stilts above the oxbow lagoon with an adjoining lounge area for relaxing in the open air.
